Interview FAQs

How should I negotiate salary?
Wait until you’ve been offered the job before you embark on any salary negotiation!
Do some research into the going rate for similar types of roles, so that you have realistic expectations. Hiring managers may have a salary range, and the specific amount you secure could depend on your experience or simply on your confidence in negotiation. Don’t sell yourself short by asking for a salary in the bottom of the range that is usual for the job –have some confidence in your ability to command a higher than average salary. If you don’t believe in yourself, why should anyone else?

What questions should I ask the Interviewer?
Ideally, you should be asking questions that you have a burning desire to find out the answer to. Do not ask questions to which you clearly already know the answer in an attempt to impress the interviewer!
Examples could include:
Could you describe a typical working day for me?
What types of training opportunities are on offer?
Who would my line manager be?
How do you see this role developing?
What are the key attributes that would enable success in this role?
What have previous people in this role gone on to do?
How would you describe the culture of the organization?

What should I say if I was fired from my last job?
We are asked this question a lot, obviously being fired is a situation that can make you feel particularly at a disadvantage during a job search. our best advice is, to be honest, and brief. Only tell a potential employer what is absolutely essential. There is no need to volunteer information that has not directly been asked of you. If you find you have to explain: don’t place blame on anyone else. Accept responsibility for your failings and describe what you have learned and how you would do things differently. Try to put a positive spin on it! Don't ever be tempted to lie, its a small world and dishonesty is likely to backfire at some point.
